I had my left total knee replacement in September 2014. Which went very well. I had my right total knee replacement in Novenber 2015 which also went very well. I had total faith in my consultant who explained everything in great detail about the two operations, so I knew what would happen right from the start. The aftercare (physiothapy) was excellent, and it was explained to me that I would have to do all the exercises at home everyday so as to regain full movement. I can now kneel on my knees which I could not do before. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Batra to anyone also the hospital where I had both operations, their aftercare was exceptional. I have already recommended Mr Batra and the Oaklands hospital to several people.

On first meeting Mr Batra , Having had scans and x-rays, he explained the finding's and fully explained any risks that go along with surgery. He was confident, surgery would make a beneficial improvement to my knee. On the day of surgery he was extremely reassuring going through the procedure he was about to perform. After surgery Mr Batra came to explain what he had done during the operation, nothing seems to be too much trouble and makes you feel you are his only patient . On my follow up appointment once again as my father would say "he has an excellent bedside manner ". He has through this process, been very calming, confident an excellent surgeon and a thoroughly charming gentleman. No doubt as i get older my knee's will need attention again ,and this is the first person i shall turn to. Thank you Mr Batra . Garry Parsons

I highly recommend the Consultant and surgeon Mr G Batra who performed surgery of a hip replacement together with an unexpected bone graft. Six weeks after surgery I felt as good as new, with no pain. His technique appears to be no stiches or clips for closing the wound sparing any discomfort two weeks post surgery. I was also fortunate to have Mr Batra repair a broken ankle a year previous together with a further required prodedure and have found him absolutely charming on each occasion despite his busy schedule.

Any person who requires treatment of the knees I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with mr. Batra. Not only a fantastic surgeon who explains every detail until you fully understand it, he is also a fantastic and genuine person. I have never had surgery before now and was quite nervous about my 1st time. However, had I known then what I know now I couldn't have been more wrong. I felt calm and very confident that the treatment I was about to receive was going to be successful and I was right. My knee feels like new and I cannot be more pleased with the result. I'm an avid sportsman and within 4 weeks of treatment I can now start to plan some events this year. Should I ever require any further treatment on my knees or hips I know where I will be going. Do not hesitate to be referred to mr. Batra. A 1st class experience

Profile

I have been a Hip & Knee Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital since 2010.

I perform Hip and Knee Replacement, Revision Hip and Knee Replacement, Arthroscopic (keyhole) Hip and Knee Surgery, including ACL reconstruction.

I see people with any type of sports injury to arrange diagnostic tests and organise treatment and rehabilitation.

I am one of few Orthopaedic Consultants in the region who has also completed their Sports Medicine Membership exams (MFSEM) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This gives me an unique insight into sporting injuries, training methods sports psychology as well as nutrition.

I am a keen runner and still run in the Vets Category for Sale Harriers with a marathon PB of just over 3 hours. I have played a number of different sports at a good level including badminton and squash for my University.

I am happy to see patients who have sporting ambitions at any level and are struggling to get back to their sport. You will get honest advice about what can and cannot be done.

I understand how important it is for you to be able to continue to do the sport that you love so much and I will do my best to help you achieve this.

I qualified in 1995 from University of Wales College of Medicine with Commendation. I did my basic Surgical Training (MRCS) in Manchester in 1998. I spent three years at the Manchester Medical School conducting research into how cells behave when human bone heals after it has broken, for which I was awarded my PhD. I started higher surgical training in 2003 and passed my FRCS (Orth) exam in 2007. During my training, I did the Bolton Knee Fellowship, Leicester Hip Fellowship and visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to complete a Visiting Clinician’s Fellowship. I completed my MFSEM with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2018.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
